U.S. Military Conducts Targeted Air Strikes in Syria…

US Strikes in Syria

In a calculated response to recent alleged attacks on its forces in Iraq and Syria, the U.S. military executed targeted strikes against facilities in eastern Syria on Thursday night. The facilities are known to be used by Iran’s military and its terrorist proxy groups.

The U.S. Department of Defense stated that these precision strikes were a necessary act of self-defense. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced, “U.S. military forces conducted self-defense strikes on two facilities in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated groups.” He added that the strikes were in response to a series of attacks initiated on October 17 against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-backed militia groups.

The statement highlighted that the repeated attacks by Iranian-backed terrorist proxies have had significant consequences. A total of 21 U.S. soldiers have been injured, and a contractor lost his life to a heart attack during one of the attacks. Additionally, 19 soldiers are now suffering from traumatic brain injuries.

Secretary Austin was firm in his message, declaring, “The United States will not tolerate such attacks and will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests.” He emphasized that while the U.S. does not seek conflict and has no intention of escalating hostilities, it will take all necessary measures to protect its people.

The statement further addressed Iran’s alleged attempts to deny involvement in the attacks. “Iran wants to hide its hand and deny its role in these attacks against our forces. We will not let them. If attacks by Iran’s proxies against U.S. forces continue, we will not hesitate to take further necessary measures to protect our people.”

The Department of Defense concluded its statement by clarifying the intent and scope of the strikes, stating, “These narrowly tailored strikes in self-defense were intended solely to protect and defend U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria. They are separate and distinct from the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, and do not constitute a shift in our approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict. We continue to urge all state and non-state entities not to take action that would escalate into a broader regional conflict.”

The international community and regional players are closely watching the situation, as the U.S.’s decisive actions mark a significant development in its stance against Iranian-backed aggression in the region.
