Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, found herself in an unexpected position following the Nevada Republican presidential primary. Haley, once considered a frontrunner in the race, faced a stunning defeat to an unlikely opponent: “None of These Candidates.”
According to a report by Zero Hedge, Haley trailed behind “None of These Candidates” by approximately 22,000 votes, receiving less than a third of the total votes cast. The outcome, which was declared at 9 p.m. PST, revealed a significant voter preference for none of the listed candidates, with over 60 percent of voters opting for no one.
Adding to the intrigue of the results, former Vice President Mike Pence garnered 2,705 votes, despite not actively campaigning in the primary race. The unexpected nature of these results prompted a lighthearted remark from former President Donald Trump, who humorously suggested that Haley would soon be claiming victory despite her second-place finish.
The election offered candidates the choice between participating in the primary or a caucus, with Trump opting for the latter, where the allocation of delegates would occur. Bruce Parks, the Chair of the Washoe County Republican Party, reportedly encouraged voters to select “none of these candidates” over Haley, as per the Associated Press.
Haley’s campaign responded to the outcome with a statement asserting their decision not to allocate resources to Nevada. “We have not spent a dime nor an ounce of energy on Nevada. We made the decision early on that we were not going to pay $55,000 to a Trump entity to participate in a process that is rigged for Trump,” the statement read.
Critics, including Trump adviser Chris LaCivita, expressed confusion over Haley’s strategy, particularly her choice not to participate in a crucial state like Nevada. “If your goal is to win the Republican nomination for president, you go where the delegates are. And it baffles me that Nikki Haley chose not to participate,” LaCivita remarked.
The unexpected outcome of the Nevada Republican primary has undoubtedly stirred speculation and raised questions about the strategies and decisions of the candidates involved. As the race for the Republican nomination continues, Haley and others will undoubtedly need to reassess their approaches in light of these surprising results.
