Experts Stumped by White House’s Hatch Act Defense Amid Cocaine Speculation

Joe Biden and cocaine found in the White House

the White House press office faced a dilemma today when asked about the origin of cocaine found in the West Wing area. A reporter questioned Andrew Bates, White House deputy press secretary, regarding former President Donald Trump’s recent claim that the cocaine could have belonged to President Joe Biden or his son, Hunter.

Bates, in response to the inquiry, stated, “I don’t have a response to that because we have to be careful about the Hatch Act.” He further commented on the growing frustration emanating from that particular corner, suggesting that it might be rooted in policy differences.

This statement sparked curiosity among conservatives, who found it puzzling that the Hatch Act, which limits political activities of civil service employees, was brought up in relation to Trump’s comment. Conservative commentator Steve Guest expressed his confusion on Twitter, remarking, “Odd that Bates pivots to the Hatch Act and doesn’t deny the question…”

Attorney Bradley P. Moss also questioned the relevance of the Hatch Act, stating, “I am candidly at a loss as to why Mr. Bates believes the Hatch Act is relevant with respect to addressing that question.” Moss suggested other legitimate reasons for not responding, such as preserving the integrity of an ongoing investigation.

Richard Painter, former Bush administration ethics chief, joined the discussion, emphasizing that the Hatch Act does not cover drug-related matters. Painter, who has lectured at the White House on the Hatch Act, pointed out the discrepancy in Bates’ reference.

When contacted by Fox News, Bates defended his response, stating that Trump’s comments were made as a “comment from a declared candidate,” falling under the purview of the Hatch Act.

The White House has recently faced allegations regarding the Hatch Act, with White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre referring to “MAGA Republican officials who don’t believe in the rule of law” last month. However, the connection between these allegations and the current cocaine discovery remains unclear.

  1. I am so sick and tired of the constant lying done by Biden and the WH.
Has Biden ever told the truth? Not that I can remember. 2024, the end is near!
