Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted for the murder of George Floyd, was stabbed and seriously injured in a federal prison in Arizona. The incident occurred at the Federal Correctional Institution, Tucson, a medium-security facility known for its security lapses and staffing shortages. The Bureau of Prisons confirmed that the assault happened at around 12:30 p.m. local time on Friday, but did not disclose the identity of the inmate involved.
They’re trying to take out Chauvin before their lies are revealed if he gets a 2nd trial— Jack Poso 🇺🇸 (@JackPosobiec) November 25, 2023
The attack on Chauvin is not the first high-profile incident in federal prisons in recent months. In July, Larry Nassar, a disgraced sports doctor, was also attacked by an inmate in Florida. Furthermore, this is the second major incident at FCI Tucson in just over a year, following an attempted shooting by an inmate in November 2022.
They’re trying to unalive Chauvin, now that George Floyd’s autopsy is public. Anything to get rid of the evidence that he was railroaded. https://t.co/J2p5D3RQbe— Donine (@mspistolicious) November 25, 2023
Chauvin, 47, was transferred to FCI Tucson in August 2022 to serve a 21-year federal sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights and a concurrent 22½-year state sentence for second-degree murder. His lawyer had previously advocated for Chauvin to be kept out of general population, anticipating he would be a target. In Minnesota, he was mainly held in solitary confinement for his protection.
Evidence says Chauvin did not kill George Floyd… as I've said since day one .. if the evidence doesn't fit.. then you must acquit pic.twitter.com/05d7ERIodh— Chicago1Ray 🇺🇸 (@Chicago1Ray) October 20, 2023
This latest incident adds to the ongoing scrutiny faced by the federal Bureau of Prisons, especially after the jail suicide of financier Jeffrey Epstein in 2019 and the recent stabbing of Ted Kaczynski. An AP investigation has revealed significant flaws within the Bureau of Prisons, including sexual abuse, violence, escapes, and staffing issues. Bureau of Prisons Director Colette Peters, appointed last year to reform the agency, has faced criticism for not being transparent with lawmakers and for the continuing issues under her leadership.
GEORGE FLOYD DIED OF AN OVERDOSE AND A BAD HEART ACCORDING TO THE CORONER – AND was not murdered by Chauvin – Now Chauvin may have paid the ultimate price in prison for the judge's bad decision not to overturn the verdict.— BelannF (@BelannF) November 25, 2023
