On the third anniversary of the January 6 Capitol protest, President Biden marked the occasion by portraying his likely opponent, former President Donald Trump, as a “threat to democracy” and an “insurrectionist.” However, Biden’s remarks were not without controversy, as he once again repeated a complete lie that police officers were killed by the crowd on January 6.
Biden claimed that “over 140 police officers were injured” and that he and the First Lady attended the funeral of officers who died as a result of the events of that day. He also mentioned that the U.S. Capitol has been bombed by far-left extremists multiple times, though he did not provide specific details.
However, numerous Democrat leaders and officials, including President Biden, have been spreading the false claim that Capitol Police officers were murdered by the crowd on January 6. Officer Brian Sicknick passed away in the days following the protests, but his death was determined to be due to natural causes. Despite this, mainstream media outlets and Democrat leaders continued to spread a lie that Sicknick was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher.
Additionally, four officers committed suicide in the weeks and months following the protest, but these deaths have not been directly linked to the events of January 6.

Attorney General Merrick Garland also repeated the same falsehood just hours before Biden’s speech, claiming that the “five officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty as a result of what happened to them on January 6.”
Democrat leaders, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Biden, have even included an officer who was killed by a Nation of Islam member in April 2021 as part of the January 6 “death toll.”

Biden’s remarks have sparked a heated debate over the facts of the January 6 protest and the extent to which the former President can be held responsible for the events of that day. Critics argue that Biden’s false claims undermine the credibility of his administration and the Democratic Party, while supporters maintain that the president’s focus on the threat to democracy is more important than the specific details of the incident.
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the controversy surrounding Biden’s remarks on the January 6 anniversary is likely to remain a topic of heated debate.
