Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman Triggers Fire Alarm, Sparks Investigation
Washington, D.C. — Democratic Representative Jamaal Bowman of New York appears to purposely pull a fire alarm in the Cannon Building, leading to the evacuation of the area. The incident occurred during a crucial time when Democrats were attempting to buy more time to review a new Continuing Resolution (CR).
Fox News correspondent Chad Pergram reported that the U.S. Capitol Police’s criminal investigation unit is questioning Rep. Bowman regarding the incident. The Capitol Police, responsible for ensuring security within the Capitol complex, released a photograph of Bowman pulling the fire alarm.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a fellow member of Congress, quickly shared updates on the situation, tweeting, “Fire alarm is going off in Cannon.” Greene has called for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to consider prosecuting Bowman for any potential violations of the law stemming from his actions.
However, Rep. Bowman’s spokesperson has offered an explanation, stating that the congressman “did not realize he would trigger a building alarm” when he pulled the fire alarm and expressing regret for any confusion caused.

Nevertheless, Breitbart News has reported conflicting information from sources with knowledge of the investigation. These sources claim that Rep. Bowman not only pulled the fire alarm but also initially tore down and discarded two emergency signs before activating the alarm. Photographs taken after the incident show damage to the emergency exit door, which has since been repaired.
In the photograph released by Capitol Police, the two red signs typically affixed to the door appear to be absent. According to sources, Bowman approached the door during a House Democrats’ motion to adjourn vote earlier in the day, forcibly removed the emergency signs, and discarded them before pulling the fire alarm. Witnesses reported that Bowman did not adhere to the instructions on the emergency signs, nor did he observe the 30-second waiting period indicated.

Bowman later told reporters, “I thought the alarm would open the door,” but this explanation has been met with skepticism by those familiar with the incident.
Rep. George Santos criticized Bowman’s actions, referring to them as a “stunt.” The incident comes just a day after Bowman had stated that a government shutdown would likely occur due to House Republicans’ “incompetence and dysfunction.”
Many Americans are now watching closely to see if Rep. Jamaal Bowman will face any legal consequences for his actions, which could potentially include charges related to the “disruption of an official proceeding.” The incident has raised questions about security protocols within the Capitol complex and the consequences of such actions in a highly sensitive environment.
